About.

The mission of the Southern Alberta Inclusion Coalition (SAIC) is to provide a platform for municipal governments, community organizations, and other interested persons (professional or volunteer) to share information, knowledge, skills, and experiences to collaboratively create communities where everyone experiences a sense of belonging, and have no  free from social barriers, and are active participants in the social, cultural and economic life of the community. Further, the Coalition provides an opportunity to approach issues as a group, speak with a unified voice, advocate for inclusive practices and engender a community of practice.

The vision of the Southern Alberta Inclusion Coalition is one where “Communities across Southern Alberta are empowered to embrace the values of inclusion through active engagement.”  An inclusive community is one where people of every age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, physical and mental ability, and religion are safe, valued, and included. We believe that all Albertans benefit when our communities are inclusive

Established in 2017

The City of Chestermere launched an initial South Central Alberta Regional Inclusion Coalition in 2017, since then,  the Coalition has quickly gained interest from communities and organizations across Southern Alberta (Red Deer and south). As a result, the Coalition changed its name to the Southern Alberta Inclusion Coalition (SAIC). As we continue to grow, the Coalition would like to see at least 50% of Southern Alberta communities involved in the work we do.

Our Goal

The Coalition’s goal is to create regular opportunities for elected officials, professionals, and advocates to meet and to learn from one another about current practices which foster and create more socially and economically inclusive communities. The Coalition also celebrates and highlights the work being undertaken in various communities, and actively promotes inclusionary efforts. The Coalition holds meetings at least twice per year, and provides participants with opportunities to hear from educational speakers, as well as discuss current issues and solutions to increase inclusion in our communities. The location of meetings will vary depending on the host organization.
